STRUCTURES AND JOINING

OBJECTIVES

  • Acquire better understanding of the various types of structures, their joining methods and the types of stresses to which structures are subjected

SYLLABUS

• The various types of structures (conventional or honeycomb) (comparison, advantages / drawbacks – selection of structures depending on aeronautical stresses: temperature, weight, sealing, implementation, lightning resistance, corrosion, etc.)
• Joining methods (bolts and nuts, riveting, adhesive bonding, welding, sealing of structures) – comparisons between the various joining methods (advantages / drawbacks)
• Introduction to strength of materials (structure stressing modes (tension / compression, buckling, shearing, torsion, bending))
• Introduction to anisotropic materials (study of tension of a composite material, comparison with a metal test specimen)
• Introduction to fracture mechanics: fatigue, endurance, creeping
